A Kitchen Clean - I have decided to do a feature on my new house. Some of the rooms were simply tragic! So I took some pix of the room before and after, and I will explain what I did and why!! My kitchen.Always the heart of any home, I spend more time in there than any room in the house! So naturally it was the first to have a make over. First of all the yellow peeling wallpaper had to go, not only was it old but it was literally peeling off the walls. I hired my favorite wallpapering company, WriteOnYourWalls, to come-on in and remedy that. First they stripped the paper, and prepared the surface. Then I picked a paper. My choice was a beautiful ivory paper that has a hint of texture. I picked this for three reasons, #1 it is versatile, we can easily change the look of the room, ivory is a neutral color. #2 the paper opened up the small room. Light colors make any room look bigger with little effort. #3 I loved the color, always use colors you like. If you don’t like it to begin with, you never will.

I have decided to re polish the beautiful Jarrah floors through out my home, they came up wonderfully! While I was painting, I painted the French doors; they had a heavy old polish on them. I was a dated look I was keen to get rid of. The benches and counters were beyond repair. There was noting we could do but rip them out and start again. I had my good friends at J&J Cabinetry custom make some lovely dark wood counters and benches for me. Again the reason is versatility, I can change the look later if I so desire. I brought my stove from a demolition yard and fixed it myself. It was badly rusted, so I sanded it back and wire brushed it. I had another friend of mine weld the cracks. After that I had it dipped in enamel. The stove cost me 50 simoliens, I sanded it myself to cut costs, 15 simoliens for sandpaper. And to dip it in enamel cost me 500 simoliens. So for a total of 565 simoliens I had a blast from the past that fit my house perfectly! The other white goods, I picked up from a store that sold reproduction antiques. I added a huge green fern, beautiful little shaded wall lights and my room was done! Karmen Jennings
